About Our Roofing
Character Roofing (CR) was started by myself, Pete Claffey in April 2008 with the purpose of providing quality roofing systems for Gisborne and the East Coast and to ensure Character Roofing would be the best.
My journey started at the age of fifteen when I decided that school was no longer where I needed to be. I wanted to work within the building industry so I came up with a plan.
At the time, my parents were building a new house and the roofing company were looking for labourers. I approached the owner of the company, had a quick chat and came away with a job to start the following Monday.
Whilst working and completing my apprenticeship, I gained a lot of experience and skills that I needed to continue to move forward in my career.
I decided to relocate to Tauranga for new opportunities, it was there that I became a contractor, I was installing residential roofs around the Bay of Plenty region.
About 4 years later I was approached to do a commercial roof in Gisborne, I jumped at the opportunity to come spend some time at home. After 3 months of doing the job and spending my days back where I loved to be, I decided to stay and build my own company.
That one I started alone in 2008 is the one I still own and operate today, Character Roofing Ltd. We have had enormous growth over the last 10+ years and are now a dedicated team of 11 who work harmoniously on all jobs, big or small. We are all constantly up-skilling on the latest roofing applications as well as the classics to ensure we can continue to be the best.
